The Music - Familiar Country hits selected from over 4 decades. You'll hear all of your favorites! Great songs by the biggest artists that haven't been played on the radio in years.

Our Signal - We broadcast with 50,000 watts around the clock. Our daytime signal is focused into the populated areas of New Mexico. To the North, KCKN can be heard loud and clear into the suburbs of Albuquerque. Head South and you can hear KCKN to the outskirts of El Paso, Texas. At night, KCKN takes advantage of the atmospheric conditions that only the most powerful A.M. stations enjoy. The result; solid coverage that stretches from western Canada to central Mexico and 10 western States in between.

KCKN 1020 says ‘Thanks for making us #1-Again!’
Saturday, July 10, 2010

KCKN 1020 is still an audience leader in Chaves County according to the nation's top audience survey company, Arbitron. Recent ratings prove that KCKN is still the #1 music radio station overall.

Another important detail revealed by the Arbitron survey shows that KCKN has the “Highest Time Spent Listening.” Jerry Kiefer, KCKN's General Manager, said “People tune in each morning and stay with the station all day. That's great news for our advertisers. They know their message will be heard.”

Kiefer said “It took a lot of hard work from a professional team of experienced broadcasters to make it happen. The staff has to be the most creative people I've ever worked with in decades, and our owner, James Crystal Broadcasting, is pleased with all that has been accomplished in just over four years with the Classic Country format.”

So what are the key ingredients that make “Kickin' Country” so popular?

“Our signal is the best in New Mexico. With the recent technical upgrades, we give our listeners 400 miles of classic country music from Pecos, New Mexico to Pecos, Texas.” Kiefer says a strong signal must be reliable too.

“KCKN is the only radio station in southeast New Mexico with an emergency back-up generator and a spare transmitter. When other radio stations are off-the-air, KCKN 1020 will be on during storms and other events that disrupt power, keeping our listeners informed.”

Proper programming helps too!

Don Niccum's morning show is next to none. He wakes up southeast New Mexico with local news, sports, weather, music, contests and some unique information that makes listening fun. Dara Dana joins Don in the studio to bring you “Dial-N-Deal” each weekday morning from 9:00 to 9:30 to take calls on items listeners want to sell, buy, swap or trade. Call the Dial-N-Deal line at 575-622-5256 or, out of town callers can use the toll free line at 888-623-5256.

KCKN also has the area’s largest radio station local news department with market veteran Matt Casey and Shane Scott. Kiefer stated, “We also place a strong emphasis on local and regional news. We are in the field and on the phone, tracking down stories that our listeners hear six times daily and KCKN is not afraid to take a stand with our hard-hitting Tuesday editorials!”

Agriculture is important to the economy of this region and KCKN provides a half hour daily program with agribusiness news, markets and trends. Tune in to “Agriculture Today” each weekday morning at 5:30 and you'll be kept well informed with KCKN Farm Director Tony St. James. Plus, on Mondays and Tuesdays, catch the Roswell Livestock auction report with Smiley Wooten.

Besides great Classic Country music, listeners hear contests on Kickin' Country too...  lots of contests!! During the month of July you can win a pair of tickets to see Toby Keith, Trace Adkins and James Otto live at the Albuquerque Hard Rock Pavilion on August 12, and also enter to win a carload of groceries at Lawrence Brothers IGA. And coming back this fall is KCKN’s “U Pick ‘em Football” picks contest.

KCKN encourages local clubs and nonprofit organizations to send information about upcoming events for inclusion on their Community Calendar.

For sales information, call KCKN at (575) 622-0658, for requests and contests: dial 622-5256 locally or toll-free at (888) 623-5256 for outlying areas. KCKN listeners can also listen online at www.kckn1020.com
