Roswell Regional Hospital and Wells Fargo will be hosting their annual charity golf tournament on Saturday, September 25th at the Spring River Golf Course.  The event will benefit the Conquistador Council of the Boy Scouts, The American Red Cross and the United Way of Chaves County.  Entry Fee is $100 per player or $400 per team.  Fees include greens fees, carts, range balls, mulligans, two meals and drinks.  8am shotgun start.  Play will be a four person scramble and everyone will have a chance to win prizes and cash.  Deadline for entry is no later than noon on Thursday, September 23.  For information, call the United Way at 622-41-50.

The Elks Fighting Cancer Charity Golf Tournament is coming up on Saturday, September 18th at the New Mexico Military Institute Golf Course.  It will be a four person scramble, 8am shotgun start.  Entry fee is 60 dollars per player, 240 dollars per team.  Send you entries to the Golf Course Pro Shop at 201 West 19th Street in Roswell.  Only the first 24 paid teams will be accepted.  Registration includes breakfast, lunch, range balls and greens fees.  All hole sponsor money will be donated to the Chaves County Cancer Fund.

The Roswell Midday Lions Club will be holding a turkey shoot to raise money to purchase eyeglasses for needy kids.  The event will be held on Saturday, October 7th beginning at 9am at the Roswell Gun Club on Highway 70 north of Roswell.  Guns are limited to 22 caliber or below, any rifle and any type sight.  3 shots per target for a combined high schore.  Any shooters under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and have a hunter safety certificate. 

Roswell Main Street will be holding Alive After Five in downtown Roswell on Thursday, September 9th beginning at 4.  The event will take place on North Main Street between 2nd and 4th Streets.  There will be free entertainment for the entire family.  Great food including home grown fruits and vegetables.  Plus many downtown merchants will be holding sidewalk sales during the event.  Several sponsorship levels are available and all sponsors will have free space on Main Street to show their stuff.  For information, call 575-420-5718, 420-9660 or go online at Mainstreetroswell dot org.

The Midway Youth and Family Development Center will be holding a Car Show at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center on Saturday, October 9th from 9 to 4.  It will be a family friendly event with a kids zone, great food and prizes.  The show is open to all types of vehicles, both four wheeled and two wheeled, domestic, imports and compacts.  Vehicle registraton begins at 730am and the cost is 20 dollars per vehicle.  Plus, you can register to win a 1998 Camero.  For information, call Daniel at 575-347-5309.  For tickets to enter the Camero drawing, call 317-4373 or 910-2803.

If you are a shooter, this if for you.  The Artesia Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Clays Shooter Fun Shoot.  It will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 24th and 25th at the Eddy County Shooting Range in Artesia.  A Five Stand Event will be held at 6 on Friday night.  The main event, a 100 target fun shoot, will be held on Saturday.  Two rotations will be offered, 9am and 1pm.  1 person in 5 will win a prize.  Cost is $150 per shooter per rotation.  Register early, the number of openings is limited.  For more information, contact the Artesia Chamber of Commerce at 575-746-2744 or www.artesiachamber.com.

The First Responders Memorial Breakfast will be held at the Roswell Elks Lodge #969 (located at 1720 N. Montana Ave) on September 11, 2010 from 6-9 AM.  The Memorial/ Recognition ceremony will begin at 8:00 AM.  Everyone is encouraged to attend as a show of support for this event and the 2011 project.  

The Las Lianas is now taking new members.  Las Lianas, meaning The Vine, was founded in 1987 as a professional womens committee of the Assistance League of Chaves County.  Las Lianas helps the assistance league with their operation school bell program which provides new clothing to elementary and middle school students in the county who lack adequate and suitable clothing.
